Description
Dear Founder,
I’m writing this to you at whatever hour you’re reading it — though if I had to guess, it’s either very early in the morning or very late at night. Those are the hours entrepreneurs read books like this. The in-between hours are eaten by operations, by other people’s emergencies, by the relentless machinery of a business that depends on you for everything. So you read at the edges of the day, in the margins of a life that doesn’t leave much room for margins.
I know, because I’ve been there.
I’ve been the person who couldn’t sleep because the payroll numbers didn’t add up. I’ve been the person who checked email at two in the morning, not because anything useful would be there, but because the anxiety of not checking was worse than the anxiety of checking. I’ve been the person who smiled through a networking event while silently calculating how many weeks of runway remained. I’ve been the person whose family learned to recognise the particular quality of absence that means “physically present but mentally somewhere else entirely.”
